Golden Corridor is quoted by the Associated Press: Here If the Youth Promise Act goes to a vote in the House and Senate, write Congress and tell them to vote
no: August 24, 2010 Statement by Golden Corridor Republican Women
to the Associated Press regarding The Youth Promise Act.
Although the Youth Promise Act would promote research
on the effectiveness of crime prevention, we cannot afford to throw more money toward another expensive government program
at a time when our citizens are burdened with higher and higher federal debt. We would be better served by reducing taxes,
improving the economy, and putting young people to work in productive jobs.
We oppose the creation of the Youth-Oriented
Policing Services (YOPS) because it may not meet a constitutional test and would interfere with powers reserved for the states
and local police departments. Millions of dollars will be spent every year toward another difficult-to-navigate government
agency, the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program. Our states have strained relations with the federal government
over immigration law enforcement. There is no need to expand the federal reach into other areas of criminal enforcement.
The YPA would duplicate payments to law enforcement for the same jobs. It would create more paperwork and strain
local budgets if local agencies are required to supply matching funds. Further, local law enforcement may become more dependent
on funds from federal programs to become effective. Once the door is opened for a federal role, it will lead to more and
more federal control.
In short, we want less government, not more. We want less interference in business, lower
taxes, more economic freedom and more control over our local and state budgets. Big government bureaucrats in Washington
should leave businesses and taxpayers alone and let them produce, innovate, and lead this country out of the recession. Providing
jobs and promising careers to young people will deter criminal activity and make our communities safer.

About the Youth Promise Act: See the Youth Promise Act promoted on Twitter and Facebook. How
would the Youth Promise Act effect law enforcement here in Texas? The sponsor, Rep. Bobby Scott, gives this

H.R 1064 moved from the House Justice Committee to the Education Committee. The house version of the bill has 235 co-sponsors. The senate version has 14 co-sponsors.
A Heritage
Foundation analyst made these comments: When Congress subsidizes local law enforcement in this manner,
it effectively reassigns to the federal government the powers and responsibilities that fall squarely within the expertise,
historical control, and constitutional authority of state and local governments.[ix] The responsibility to combat ordinary
crime at the local level belongs wholly, if not exclusively, to state and local governments. http://www.heritage.org/Research/Testimony/The-Youth-PROMISE-Act-Outside-the-Scope-and-Expertise-of-the-Federal-Government What would it cost Texas law enforcement? Is it redundant? Would it really help reduce
gang and criminal activity? Would it impede, rather than help local law enforcement? How would federal
guidelines under YPA effect law enforcement of illegal aliens, especially if they are in gangs? Is
it Constitutional?
Why does the Peace Alliance believe that the Youth Promise Act is a
stepping stone to a U.S. Department of Peace?: The Peace Alliance has officially decided to include this piece
of legislation as one of the items we are encouraging our network to support. We feel this
is the type of legislation that can act as one of the pillars of support towards increased political will for a U.S. Dept.

this pledge: My Pledge to My Constituents on National Health Insurance 1. I will not vote to expand
the bankrupt Medicare program unless and until it is first placed on a sound actuarial basis. 2.
I will not vote for any national health insurance legislation that includes a public plan unless I am prepared to enroll myself

CAP &
TRADE. Now is the time to speak to our U.S. Senators about Cap and Trade. In Obama's words in this video,
we are the citizenry that can "mobilize" and can "force our representatives to do the right thing."
See Obama in this YouTube video. --I wonder how many realize that before selling a home, an energy inspection
will be required. --I wonder how many realize that there is going to be a residential database that tracks
the energy efficiency of their homes. There will be an "ENERGY PERFORMANCE LABELING PROGRAM." --Big Brother,
the U.S. Government, will be demanding that existing structures meet certain standards and be "retrofitted." --There will be the development of "achieved performance measurement protocols for residential building
energy use for at least 90 percent of the residential market within 5 years after the date of enactment of this Act." --If your home doesn't meet the national building code, you'll have to bring it up to code. Inspectors will
determine if your property is in compliance. Source. Please speak up now. Contact

This weekend's Fourth of July festivities celebrated the birth of representative
government in America. As the Declaration of Independence set forth 233 years ago, our government derives its power from the
consent of the governed. Such consent does not exist when legislation is purposely rammed through Congress so quickly that
congressmen -- let alone citizens -- do not have time even to read it.
Welcome to Speaker Nancy Pelosi's House
of Representatives. The "people's House" is now a place where bills are voted on not only before legislators or
the public have read them, but also before parts of the bills even have been written. Such was the case with a 300-page amendment
to the cap-and-trade bill the House passed on June 26. The House leadership could not even produce this amendment on paper,
in final form, before it was voted on.
In response to that and other recent outrageous infringements of real
representative democracy, a group called Let Freedom Ring is pushing all 435 members of Congress and 100 senators to sign
a pledge against such shenanigans on any health care reform bill Congress considers.
All 535 of them ought to
do so.
The pledge, which can be found at www.pledgetoread.com, reads in part as follows: "I pledge
to my constituents and the American people that I will not vote to enact any healthcare reform package that: 1) I have not
read, personally, in its entirety; and 2) Has not been available, in its entirety, to the American people on the Internet
for at least 72 hours, so that they can read it too."
