Republican
Party Conventions
The
Process
Become involved in Republican Party conventions
at every level, beginning in your own neighborhood precinct. If you attend each convention as a delegate (or possibly as an
alternate), you will have the opportunity to make your voice heard in the Party's political process.
At each convention level, Republicans participate by determining two primary pieces of
business, which you can remember as "people and platform." At each convention, you:
- elect people to represent you in Party matters and
- pass
resolutions to the Republican Party platform, which is the Party's philosophy regarding values, principles, and issues.
The people elected as delegates and alternates and the resolutions
passed at each convention level, move up to the next convention level. In some conventions, you also elect your Republican
Party officials.
The process is easy to join. It all begins by voting in
the Primary Election--by absentee voting, early voting, or voting on the day of the election--and then attending your Precinct
Convention later on the night of the Primary Election in your neighborhood.
If
at any point except the precinct, you are not elected as a delegate or an alternate and you desire to participate in the next
convention level, inquire about the possibility of appearing before the convention's nominations committee.
Below are the levels of conventions:
Precinct Republican Party Convention
Who
May Participate: You may attend this convention only if you voted in the Primary Election by absentee voting, early voting,
or voting on the day of the election. Be sure to arrive at the convention early or on time!
Location: This convention meets in your neighborhood, usually located in your polling place on the evening of the Primary
Election.

lasts only about an hour; in 2004, Precinct Conventions in Texas convene on March 9.
County/Senatorial District Republican Party Convention

Convention. However, if your senatorial district spans more than one county, separate conventions will convene for each part
of your senatorial district in each county. You will attend your Senatorial District Republican Party Convention for your
county.

generally lasts all day. In 2006 this will be on March 25.

be considered.
